When I first stepped into the role of a manager, I felt like I was walking into uncharted territory. As a software developer, I was accustomed to being the go-to person for coding issues, diving deep into projects, and having my finger on the pulse of every detail. Transitioning into management meant I had to shift my mindset, and believe me, it wasn’t easy.

Initially, I struggled with the idea of delegating tasks. These were things I was used to doing myself, and the thought of letting go was daunting. I felt a constant tug-of-war between trusting my team and the comfort of handling things on my own. The fear of losing control or not meeting high standards kept me awake at night. But I knew that to succeed, I had to evolve.

The turning point came when I decided to focus on building trust within my team. I realised that delegation wasn’t just about handing off tasks; it was about empowering others and fostering an environment where everyone felt valued and responsible. I started small, assigning tasks that gradually increased in complexity, and held regular check-ins to provide support and feedback. It was incredible to see how my team’s enthusiasm and productivity soared as a result.
